The Adafruit 9-DOF Absolute Orientation IMU Fusion Breakout - BNO055 is a highly advanced sensor that simplifies the complex task of determining 3D space orientation. It integrates a MEMS accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyroscope on a single chip, using a high-speed ARM Cortex-M0 processor to process and fuse sensor data in real-time. This sensor delivers stable and accurate orientation data without the need for complicated algorithms, making it easy to use for anyone working with 3D orientation and motion tracking.

The BNO055 offers multiple types of sensor data outputs, including:

  • Absolute Orientation (Euler Vector, 100Hz): Three-axis orientation based on a 360° sphere.
  • Absolute Orientation (Quaternion, 100Hz): Four-point quaternion output for precise data manipulation.
  • Angular Velocity Vector (100Hz): Three-axis rotation speed in rad/s.
  • Acceleration Vector (100Hz): Three-axis acceleration data (gravity + linear motion) in m/s².
  • Magnetic Field Strength Vector (20Hz): Three-axis magnetic field data in microteslas (µT).
  • Linear Acceleration Vector (100Hz): Three-axis linear acceleration data (gravity subtracted) in m/s².
  • Gravity Vector (100Hz): Three-axis gravitational acceleration data (minus movement) in m/s².
  • Temperature (1Hz): Ambient temperature in Celsius.

The sensor communicates through I2C, supporting both 3.3V and 5V logic, and is easy to integrate into your project with the included STEMMA QT connectors, which eliminate the need for soldering. The sensor is plug-and-play, allowing for quick setup and data retrieval within minutes. It comes fully assembled, with a small piece of header included for easy breadboard use. If you want to use two BNO055 sensors on one I2C bus, interrupt pins and address-selection jumpers are also available.

With this smart sensor, you can bypass the complexities of sensor fusion and focus on getting valuable orientation and motion data in no time!
