Adafruit SCD-41 - True CO2 Temperature and Humidity Sensor - STEMMA QT / Qwiic

£39.58 GBP Sale

The SCD-41 is a photoacoustic "true" CO2 sensor designed to measure the CO2 concentration (in parts per million, PPM) in ambient air. Unlike sensors like the SGP30, which approximate CO2 levels based on VOC gas concentration, the SCD-41 directly measures CO2, making it highly accurate but also larger and more expensive. It is ideal for environmental sensing, scientific experiments, and air quality studies.

This sensor uses a different measurement technique than the SCD-30, allowing it to be more compact, while still maintaining similar data quality. The SCD-41 reads data via I2C communication, making it compatible with a wide range of microcontrollers and microcomputers. Arduino and Python/CircuitPython code are available for easy setup.

There are two variants of this sensor:

  • SCD-40: Lower cost, suitable for indoor/outdoor CO2 and air quality monitoring, with a range of 400-2000 ppm and an accuracy of ±(50 ppm + 5% of reading).
  • SCD-41: More expensive, ideal for industrial or scientific applications where CO2 levels can be high, with a range of 400-5000 ppm and an accuracy of ±(40 ppm + 5% of reading).

The sensor comes pre-soldered onto a custom PCB in the STEMMA QT form factor, making it easy to integrate with other components using SparkFun Qwiic I2C connectors. This design allows solderless connections between your development board and the SCD-41, or you can chain it with other sensors.

The SCD-41 operates on a 3.3V to 5V power supply but is optimized for a low-noise, low-ripple supply. It includes a 3.3V regulator and level shifters to ensure clean voltage for stable operation, particularly when connected to 5V microcontrollers like the Arduino UNO. Advanced users can modify the regulator and I2C logic level by cutting or soldering the back traces.

With its easy-to-use STEMMA QT connectors, the sensor is perfect for quick integration into your next project.
