The Raspberry Pi Global Shutter Camera is a high-performance 1.6-megapixel camera built specifically for capturing rapid motion without the visual artefacts caused by traditional rolling shutter sensors. Featuring the Sony IMX296 sensor, this camera is tailored for applications in machine vision, industrial automation, scientific imaging, and high-speed photography, where image integrity is critical.

Unlike rolling shutter cameras, the global shutter sensor captures the entire frame simultaneously, eliminating motion blur and distortion – a must for AI inference, object tracking, and robotics. With a large pixel size of 3.45μm × 3.45μm, the camera delivers excellent low-light performance and supports short exposure times (as low as 30μs) for fast-moving scenes.

Designed with flexibility in mind, it uses the same C/CS-mount system as the Raspberry Pi High Quality Camera, ensuring broad lens compatibility. Despite its lower resolution compared to rolling shutter sensors, its high-speed, artefact-free output is perfect for real-time image processing and vision algorithms.
