Interface Development Tools Adafruit USB Type C Plug Breakout

The next generation of USB connectors has arrived with USB-C, replacing older Mini and Micro B USB cables. USB-C is quickly becoming the standard across many devices, offering a symmetric/reversible connector, more data pins, and higher current output capability. While it's designed for future advancements, most developers will find the pin configuration similar to older USB standards, making it easy to use.

This USB-C breakout provides the essentials for connecting your projects, including a resistor configuration that ensures you receive 5V power. It features a semi-through hole mounting for mechanical stability, although it may not withstand bending like a Type A connector.

The breakout board includes a 5.1K resistor on the CC1 pin, which allows you to plug it into a computer or power supply, enabling the upstream port to supply 5V and up to 1.5A (depending on the power source's capabilities).

Unlike USB Type-C sockets, the plug side of this breakout board uses only one set of D+/D-/CC pins, which is necessary for the host to detect the orientation of the cable. This breakout is intended for the "A" side of the connection, with the socket on the other end handling data line connections automatically.

For most applications, simply connect VBUS to 5V input, GND to ground, and D+ and D- as you would expect.
