The Ethernet FeatherWing is the perfect solution for adding reliable, wired Ethernet connectivity to your Feather-based project. Ideal for permanent installations where wireless may not be the best option, this FeatherWing lets you easily connect to the internet via a standard Ethernet cable. It works with all of our Feather boards as an Ethernet Client, though it does not currently support server functionality.
Ethernet is a dependable and widely supported networking standard, providing a stable physical connection without the need to worry about wireless settings like SSIDs, passwords, or antenna issues. The FeatherWing uses the WIZ5500 chip for communication over SPI with a single CS pin, making it simple to integrate with any Feather board. The Arduino Ethernet2 library allows for quick setup, and within seconds, the Feather will configure itself with DHCP for automatic IP address assignment.
Key Features:
- Quick wired internet setup: Plug in an Ethernet cable and use the Ethernet2 library for simple cross-platform networking.
- Reliable Ethernet connection: No need for wireless setup; Ethernet works with any hub or switch and offers consistent connectivity.
- Link & activity lights: The RJ-45 jack has LEDs that show the current network connection status, with a link light for a solid connection and an activity light that blinks when data is being transferred.
- No PoE support: Does not include Power over Ethernet (PoE), but you can use a PoE splitter to add it if needed.
- Easy integration: Comes fully assembled and tested, with some header pins included for quick soldering and attachment to your Feather board.
Additional Info:
- PoE Option: For powering your Feather over Ethernet, you can add a PoE splitter that provides 5V at up to 2.4A, delivering power to your Feather through the micro USB connector.
This FeatherWing is an excellent choice for projects that need reliable, wired networking without the complexity of wireless setups, making it ideal for permanent installations or environments where Ethernet is the preferred solution.
