You may not be acquainted with LoRa, but you are probably familiar with the Internet of Things, and LoRa is set to alter the IoT. It's a wireless technology that's used for automatic meter reading, smart parking, and livestock tracking, among other things. Its capacity to transport packets across vast distances without consuming a lot of power is what makes it so popular. As a result, it's great for delivering little quantities of data to far-flung devices. However, there is a catch, and the hitch with LoRa is that setting up these devices is difficult. With the RangePi, we tried to make things easier.

The RangePi is an open-source USB dongle that enables you to work with the LoRa network from any computer or device. It is built on the Semtech SX1262, which allows your projects to communicate up to a 5 km range with auto-repeat.

The RangePi is also compatible with Linux and boards such as the Raspberry Pi and the BeagleBone. You don't have to utilize your Raspberry Pi's GPIO pins as it connects via USB. IoT integrators may use the device to test and set up networks without having to carry around a development board, cable, adapters, and other components. LoRa is already in use in a variety of industries, including vineyards for weather monitoring, trains for detecting frozen railway switches, and pest management for linked mousetraps.

Range-Pi is a low-cost portable “Plug and Play LoRaTM Dongle” based on Raspberry Pi RP2040 and  LoRaTM Modules, comes with an onboard 1.14" LCD that covers 433/868/915 MHz frequency band to enable data transmission up to 5 KM.

Bought to help accelerate a project; incorrect documentation impeded that acceleration

As of this review, the documentation on the website is incorrect: the schematic file is for a display module and some other resources are also incorrect. I will end up spending time to figure it out as it is not extremely complicated, but I purchased the product to accelerate my own work and not reverse engineer the design.

not suitable for LoRaWan

Nice idea, lack of documentation and does not support LoRaWAN.

Great device for on the go field testing.

These devices are a great way to get started with Lora tech and understanding more about the chip. There are some examples to get going on sb-components github page.

I use these devices to range/configuration test and monitor what is going on within my network. I highly recommend.

Nice little board with LoRa

This RangePi board is great. The LoRa radio works well. I'm able to successfully communicate with an Pi LoRa HAT board that I have.

The little OLED screen is pretty cool. It is nice to have a screen already wired up. The screen is pretty small. It is useful for debugging or small status messages, but it isn't super practical if you are working on a production quality project. I use the screen to display the IP address.
