The Adafruit FT232H Breakout Board is a versatile and powerful tool that allows your computer to directly communicate with various devices, sensors, and peripherals without the need for an Arduino or Trinket. With this board, you can easily drive tiny OLED displays, read color sensors, or even flash LEDs using your computer itself!

Key Features:

  • FT232H Chip: This chip, from FTDI, is a USB-to-serial converter that features a multi-protocol synchronous serial engine, enabling communication over SPI, I2C, UART, JTAG, and more.
  • Digital GPIO Pins: The board includes multiple GPIO pins for controlling and reading devices like LEDs, switches, and buttons.
  • No Firmware Hassle: It’s perfect for quickly iterating and testing devices with I2C, SPI, or general-purpose I/O, all directly from your computer without the need to send data through an Arduino or intermediary device.
  • EEPROM for Onboard Configuration: The board comes with an onboard EEPROM for easy configuration, making it simple to customize the device.

New Features (as of February 12, 2020):

  • Modern USB-C Connector: The board now features a USB-C connector for more reliable connections.
  • I2C Switch: The new I2C switch makes it easier to interface with D1 and D2 for I2C devices.
  • 3V Power Output: Provides a 3V power output pin with up to 500mA to power devices.
  • Stemma QT Connector: A Stemma QT connector is included for easy plug-and-play connectivity with any Stemma QT or Qwiic devices, sensors, or displays.

Compatibility:

  • Fully backward compatible with previous versions for board size, mounting holes, and pinouts. The new pins for 3V/GND are added without affecting the pinout, so they can be left disconnected if not needed.
  • Works with Python: Ideal for users who want to use Python (or CircuitPython) to control devices and access a large collection of libraries and tutorials for sensors and displays.

Ideal For:

  • Quickly controlling and testing I2C, SPI, or GPIO devices with your computer, whether for prototyping or projects.
  • Perfect for integrating devices like sensors, OLED displays, and LEDs into your projects without the need for an intermediate microcontroller.

This breakout board makes it simple to connect your computer directly to electronic devices, streamlining your workflow and saving you the hassle of additional microcontrollers or complicated setups.
