Key features include:

  • Melexis MLX90640 far-infrared sensor array
  • 32x24 pixels resolution
  • Choice of fields of view: 55°x35° (standard) or 110°x75° (wide angle)
  • Up to 64 frames per second (FPS)
  • Temperature detection from -40°C to 300°C with ~1°C accuracy
  • I2C interface with address 0x33
  • Compatible with 3.3V or 5V supply voltages
  • Reverse polarity protection on Breakout Garden connector
  • Compatible with Raspberry Pi computers, Raspberry Pi Pico (C/C++ only), and certain Arduino models

The kit includes the MLX90640 breakout board, a 1x5 pin header, and a 1x5 right-angle socket header designed to fit Raspberry Pi GPIO pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

It is compatible with Pimoroni's Breakout Garden system for easy plug-and-play use and supports Qw/ST connectors for microcontroller or HATs integration.

Note: The Breakout Garden installer does not automatically install the thermal camera software; manual installation is required. Full instructions and software libraries are available on Pimoroni's GitHub page.
